Nantucket Noel begins the day after Thanksgiving with the eagerly awaited Christmas Tree Lighting & Caroling ceremony. Main Street–closed to vehicular traffic–teems with locals and visitors alike who gather in anxious expectation to chant along with our venerable Town Crier as he begins the traditional countdown. 10-9-8! At its culmination, over 150 balsam trees magically illuminate and our central cobblestone thoroughfare is bathed in a blaze of colored lights. The enchantment intensifies as the jubilant sound of traditional holiday carols–led by the Accidentals & Naturals a capella group–fills the air, marking the start of Nantucket Noel–a month chock full of festivities to delight one and all.
